Stencilling with Cassava
Description
Discover à dìre elékò, an age-old resist-dyeing tradition developed by women in Southwestern Nigeria. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to prepare a natural starch paste from scratch and apply it to cotton fabric using stencils to create patterned resist designs. Expert instructors will guide participants through each step of the process, from paste preparation to dye application, as they create their own unique textile piece.
Materials supplied
The subsidized fee includes the use of cassava starch, dye supplies, and stencils. Each participant will be provided with one meter of cotton. Participants will keep their finished projects. An experienced instructor will guide each step of the process. T-shirts are available in sizes S, M, L, and XL. You get to keep your finished project. Refreshments will be provided.
